The Prince of New Age Mugithi has just hit us with a brand-new tune!
Wednesday evening and Irene, my colleague at work and I are standing at the Westlands stage ready to board a matatu to town then head home. Guess wh we bump into? Ayrosh and as usual, a bit of pep-talk and a promise, “will send you my brand-new jam today.”
Before he gets away am quick to interject, “are you ready for Africa Nouveau Festival this weekend?”
“Bruh, I was born ready!” and just like that, he disappears into the darkness. Quite a phenomenon act on stage, Ayrosh has chosen a vibe, which chose him back and has stuck with it.
His consistency has seen him get branded the Love Doctor and Prince of New Age Mugithi. But each time he puts out something, you fall in love just like the first time you heard him— taking the folk sound and adding his magic, his sauce to it.
From the first time we heard him in 2016, skimming through hits like Wendo, Nihaku and Shuga Mami, Ayrosh and other pioneers of the NEW AGE vernacular sound Waithaka Entertainment, Brackish, and Kwame Rigii teamed up to bring to us, Guuku, a Gikuyu Afro House track.
This jam is a clear indication that using African languages and experimenting with different genres can result in something truly magical.
