Opening Night Review – Diani Beach Festival 2017

Slow but spectacular, Diani Beach Festival 2017 opened on Saturday December 9th, and What’s Good Networks was there to bring you the highlights!

The morning showers would see the sky-diving activities get cancelled but the excitement on the ground rose above the cancellations to stage a magnificent opening.

This December, FOMO goes to another level as the much-anticipated East Africa’s premiere music and entertainment festival, Diani Beach Festival (DBF) locks down Diani Beach Club – Safari Alliance Hotel, right on the beach, from December 9, 2017, till January 2, 2018.

Under the glare of midnight fireworks that lit up the skies, and electro music, the opening night saw UK label HedKandi and artists: DJ Malin Linnea and Ellie Sax performing alongside DJs Sunman and Foozak.

Ellie Sax would win the crowd with he spectacular skills on the saxophone, pushing the crowd forward and into Brazilian like waves of dancing. Other events running throughout the day included a mix of on land and in the sea activities like jet skiing, yoga, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, beach volleyball, among others.

On the poolside, fashion producers Jeffery Wilson of the JW Show and ‘The Dapper Twins’ (Bill and Vincent Libosso) of What’s Good Studios featuring coastal and Kenyan designers, curated a runway of authentic African inspired fashion designs from Afro Comfort, Chekah Na Fashion, and neck pieces designs from The Dapper Twins and Kellin Mwangeka of the infamous, Fly Stones collections.

Diani Beach Festival (DBF) opening presents a series of world-class concert performances including the MTV award winners, Best Group in Africa, Sauti Sol fresh from delivering a majestic performance at Koroga Festival’s 20th anniversary, set to light up the performance stage on December 11th 2017, with Tanzanian Pop Princess, Vanessa Mdee, ready to deliver an unforgettable showcase to usher in New Year’s Day on 31st December.

With more than 10 mega concerts and events featuring an array of amazing international music acts drawn from across Africa and abroad at the Beach Club by night lined up, DBF will feature dynamic and talented female DJ Gloria Ansell from Hong Kong/Australia, Beatboxing artist from UK, PeteBox, Kenyan Roots and Culture reggae band, Roots Connection and renowned DJs drawn from around Kenyan top cities: among them DJ Mkuzi and Crème de la Crème. Other events in this opening weekend will include Chill & Grill Event (10th Dec) that will feature Tetu Shani, Alisha Popat, Elvis Who and The Beathogs.

DJs across all events will include Suraj, Lee The Deejay, Beng Beng, Riz, Kace, Pierra, Wijje and Hypnotiq, among others. Famous cocktail mixologist, Eric Adinaev, from Moscow will also be at DBF to spin out the best of Hennessy Cocktails, providing a luxurious experience at the sip of your glass.
