The highly anticipated music video, ‘Mr Polisi’ by Skeme Music featuring Qoqo is putting the issue of police brutality in Kenya back in the public eye.
The Jan Christian Guerilla (half of Skeme Music) produced track drops at a time when the public and, local and international human rights bodies have recorded a sharply higher number of deaths caused by the police.
“The music was inspired by these deaths and gun violence among the youths,” notes half member of Skeme Music, Charles Kariuki aka Chaleslim, “The Kenyan police force has executed hundreds of Youth aged from 15-25 in what is being called a crackdown of emerging gangs.” He adds.
Shot at Mlango Kubwa, a neighbourhood so notorious it needs no elaboration. The area has been readily associated with gangs, drugs and urban decay. It is also an area where police killings has been reported over the weeks.
Skeme Music is a two-member multi-genre collective made up of TV/Radio Host /Rapper Chale Slim and Producer/Singer/Rapper Jan Christian. The duo are some of the best performers in the current wave of fast rising Kenyan rappers evident from the impromptu freestyles, punchlines, clever lyricism and infectious energy exhibited in their tracks and on stage performances.
Qoqo, who featured Skeme Music on the Jinku produced ‘Fire By Ice’makes a return on this tune, with wavy vocals.
