As we get ready to hit the road this week to Jinja Uganda for Nyege Nyege Festival 2017, we rekindle some of the fond memories from last year!
Saturday 3rd September,
On this day we discovered a third visual artist stage, watched The Undercover Brothers, Body of Brian, Yellow Light Machine and Prisca Ojwang performances make it to our highlights of the last day of the festival.
One of the best things about this festival perhaps was the amount of music we got to listen to, passively and actively. It’s from everywhere and it comes with the wind. Within the maze of the abandoned hotel, you hear it. It calls you and you answer. Answering that call, we realized that we did not find music without its renaissance in our hearts.
With the renaissance came the community that we met at Nyege. We did not have to know their languages. Music transcended that border and reminded us why we were one.
Nyege Nyege proved one thing to us, this was time for East Africa. Our acts realized the need to become one and why unity would make our work as creatives even transcend further.
But even with the renaissance, it did not feel complete. We felt reawakened. Nyege 2016 awakened us to our music and culture. Its beauty and why even the world wants a taste of it.
Schlachthofbronx, Ibaaku, Tom Blip, Max Le Daron, Blinky Bill, Jinku, Nu Funk, Heartikal, Ea Wave, Ska Face threw it down with each heavy installment they did!
