For many eager Arsenal fans scrutinizing the action at the Azalea-Caribea Lounge in Hurlingham, this was pretty much the perfect way for Arsène Wenger to get things going. As Arsenal and Chelsea battled it out at the Wembley Stadium in London for the Community Shield, DStv hosted hundreds of its subscribers and sports enthusiasts to yet another exclusive screening of the match to mark the start of the new football season. The screening of the game, which was a repeat of the teams that played during the FA final, and a curtain raiser to the 2017/18 Premier League was attended by 200 subscribers.
First half breather and there seemed no way back for Wenger’s side as this match entered its closing stages with Chelsea leading 1-0 through Victor Moses’s strike shortly after half-time.
Dressed in the new, personalised season team jerseys, each of the attendees was thrilled and full of energy to support either the boys in blue or Wenger’s squad while looking forward to the new season kick off.
Arsenal patience and perseverance paid off and on 82 minutes secured an equaliser via Sead Kolasinac’s close-range header.
Speaking at the event, Multichoice Kenya Corporate Communications Manager Philip Wahome said,
“We are always delighted to beam our exclusive content to our subscribers while offering them unique brand experiences. At Multichoice, we are always looking to connect with our subscribers together around shared passions. This screening is a good way to give our subscribers experience first-hand the premium content we have on DStv,” he said.
Deadlock and the action was not over. The penalty shootout that followed full-time, conducted under Fifa’s new ABBA system, would ultimately see Wenger’s men the winners, taking it all after Olivier Giroud hit the decisive spot-kick in a 4-1 victory.
In the new football season, DStv subscribers will be able to watch every minute, in high definition, of all 380 matches of the English Premier League, plus 380 Spanish La Liga fixtures. The Premier League and La Liga which begin today, 11th August 2017 will see an array of superstars on display every week making the competition among the most watched football properties in the world.
Multichoice recently renewed the broadcast rights to the Premier League for the next five years, joining a league of select broadcasters from across the world, and the only one in Africa, boasting such an offering.
