The Kenyan Government through the Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i has ordered the closure of Kenyatta University (KU) and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) branches in Rwanda and Tanzania.

The directive came from Kenya’s Ministry of Education after the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) put a halt to the process of admitting students on 19 institutions citing poor performance among other ‘unmet criterias’.

“The ministry is concerned about the existence of the two campuses amidst the need for quality university education and prudent and responsible finance management in line with the Constitution, the Universities Act and the Public Finance management Act 2012,” said Dr Matiang’i

This also comes after a heavy crackdown in Kenyan varsities that has seen fake degrees revoked amongst other major changes in the education sector.
