Head down to Runda, Nairobi this weekend to get a look at Vlaine Kehew’s abstract works of art. Tomorrow from 6pm – 10pm, join Nairobi’s local artist community as they gather over wine, cheese, and a newly opened exhibition.
Elaine Kehew has been making quite a name for herself since her early days as a struggling New York artist. Kehew has been exhibiting her work in Kenya for nearly 7 years, gaining a following locally and abroad.
In 2009 Kehew and her husband moved to Nairobi, Kenya where the artist had her first solo exhibition at Le Rustique restaurant featuring abstracted sugar canes. Kehew continues to show frequently in and around Nairobi curating her own solo exhibitions, and showing with the National Museums of Kenya and with Circle Art Agency. In 2012, 2013 and 2014 the artist completed residencies at The Artist’s Press in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Her collaborations with Mark Attwood, master printer, have led to the inclusion of her work in the public collections of The Smithsonian Museum of African Art, the University at Madison, Wisconsin and the University of Johannesburg, and The University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, SA. Kehew’s paintings and prints also hang in private collections internationally. – Elaine Kehew, Artist Bio
