The 2016 Kenya National Rally Championships (KNRC) has been taking place all year long with the Seventh edition held in Eldoret being the most recent.
SportPesa which is keen on Sports Development has also sponsored a team for the Championship. Leonardo Varese and Kigo Kareithi in their Toyota Corolla RSI will battle it out with the rest of the teams on 26th of November at Guru Nanak. The team has been working at their workshop at Valley Arcade as they prepare for the last leg of the Championship. They have progressed well with an improved performance from 3rd to 2nd in their Category in the most recent races. They are now gearing for the first position.
Ever since Leonardo Varese and Kigo Kareithi were children they dreamed of participating in the rally. As kids they’d follow the Safari Rally that usually happened around March or April during the long Easter holidays. Leo is the driver of the SportPesa rally vehicle, while Kigo is his navigator.
The two have been friends since they were in high school. When Leo bought his first rally car, the first person that came to mind as his navigator was Kigo, an offer that Kigo happily accepted. The two have grown in the rally world together.
Leo is a four time 2-wheel champion.
