US born wordsmith Akua Naru is currently touring Africa and will tomorrow join fans at The Alchemist Bar for a night of soothing music. Following her debut album ‘The Journey AFlame’ back 2011, Naru has won the hearts of many music lovers, scholars and activists across the world with her powerful poetic lyricism, talent for storytelling and the ability to integrate historical narratives into her music with unmatched eloquence.
Her creations are heavily influenced by the 90s Hip Hop and live instrumentation which brings out a rare depth and honesty to her tunes. In 2012 she released her sophomore album ‘Live & Aflame Sessions’, an 11 track live studio recording of her debut album ‘The Journey Aflame’. Her recent album ‘The Miner’s Canary’ released in 2015 is a fusion of soul, blues and all that is jazz.
The German based artist has toured a lot of cities around the globe from England, Brazil,Wales, Germany, Denmark, U.S to Austria. The Africa tour has seen her perform in Maputo (Mozambique), Harare (Zimbabwe), Kigali (Rwanda), Kampala ( Uganda) and will tomorrow (22/9) perform at The Alchemist Bar, Parklands Road.
