“The Women in My Life”  is set to be Michael Soi’s  second major solo exhibition at the Circle Art Gallery.
Producing imagery of commercial sex workers and disreputable characters has earned Micheal Soi, a reputation misconstrued to glorify immorality while demeaning women. As a response to this, ‘The Women in My life,’ is intended to be a celebration of the important women who have played an integral part in shaping the man that he has become.

Michael, a member of what is often termed “the second generation” of Kenyan artists, started his career as a sculptor at Kuona Trust in 1996 following his study in fine art and art history. His undying love to tell different stories and desire to distinguish himself in the art scene motivated him to focus on painting using figurative face expressions. Overtime, he has highlighted social, economic and political issues such as corruption and commercial sex, which remain highly controversial in the Kenyan society.

The artist is also well known for his colourful tote bags bearing faces of the beautiful women who have featured in his artwork. The bags gained popularity after Oscar Award Winner Lupita Ny’ong’o bought one.

Additionally, Michael has exhibited widely both locally and internationally and has seen his work collected by the Casoria Museum of contemporary art in Napoli, Italy, the Standard Chartered Bank (UK) and individuals like Luis Moreno Ocampo, Michela Wrong, Atsango Chesoni, Robert Devaraux among
others.
