2016 has proven to be a monumental year for singer Janel Monae, she was recently invited by U.S outgoing President Barack Obama to White House for the Fourth of July celebrations. The singer/songwriter is back on the headlines this time starring in a NASA – inspired film ‘Hidden Figures’ alongside seasoned actresses Teraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer.

The film is based on an upcoming book by Margot Lee Shetterly of the same name. The film follows the untold life story of three black women; Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson who were very instrumental in helping launch the first man John Glenn into orbit. The three scientists and mathematicians were integral in NASA’S 1960 success but their story remained untold for decades. The film premieres in January 2017.
