Sauti Sol leads Kenyan artists in bagging 16 nominations across 13 categories at the just released African Muzik Magazine Africa Awards (AFRIMMA) Nominations. The African Kings of Pop received 5 nominations including the revered  Artist of The Year alongside continental greats like Wizkid, Flavour, AKA, Sarkodie,Tiwa Savage and Diamond. This comes after a successful nationwide tour to promote their latest album ‘Live And Die In Afrika’. Other Sauti Sol nominations are ; Best Male East Africa, Best African Group, AFRIMMA Video of The Year & Song of The Year– ‘Unconditionally Bae’ featuring Bongo sensation Ali Kiba.

Kenya’s Gospel music industry made it t0 AFRIMMA 2016 with Willy Paul receiving Best Gospel nomination. After releasing several hits including cross border collaborations with some of Africa’s  best Flavour (Nigeria) and Diamond (Tanzania) Akothee’ is finally swimming with the best of female talent in East Africa after receiving ‘Best Female East Africa’ alongside powerhouses like Victoria Kimani and Vanessa Mdee. Norwegian – born Kenyan femcee STL also received  Crossing Boundaries with Music Award, a lot of  her lyrics and song composition widely highlights the situation back home and the discrimination she encountered since moving to Norway in 2010. Her work has been used in films such as American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile, Save The Last Dance Two, hit TV- series CSI and Scrubs.

Hip Hop has been growing exceedingly over the past few years and two of Kenya’s best emcees King Kaka and Octopizzo will be battling it out with the crème de la crème of Africa’s Hip Hop trailblazers AKA (South Africa), Phyno (Nigeria), Olamide (Nigeria), Casper Nyovest (South Africa) and Prodigio (Angola) for Best Rap Act. Other Kenyan nominations are Enos Olik for Best Video Director, DJ Joe Mfalme for Best DJ Africa, Visita for Music Producer of The Year and DJ Fully Focus for Best DJ USA.

The 3rd annual AFRIMMA ceremony will go down on 15th October in Dallas Texas.
