You’ve probably heard by now that pop icon Madonna is in town. Madonna first mentioned her presence in Kenya a day ago when she captured Nairobi’s serene beauty..

”Good Morning Kenya ?????”.

Madonna has since visited Kibera and particularly SHOFCO (Shinning Hope For Communities) an organization that combats gender inequality and extreme poverty in urban slums by linking tuition free schools for girls to holistic social services for all.

Madonna also visited a woman she referred to as Mama Sofie, who has overcome many odds to raise her 14 children – in a 10 by 10 feet room. Madonna would again mention Mama Sofie during her address when she met First Lady Margaret Kenyatta at State House. The Pop icon is in Kenya to explore for practical programmes that have a transformative impact on vulnerable groups, especially women and children.

Speaking at State House Madonna said she will partner with First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s Beyond Zero campaign in scaling up maternal and child health programmes. She mentioned that she shares the same agenda with the First Lady in protecting women and children. Madonna is not new to Africa, she currently involved in Ray Of Hope Foundation and Raising Malawi Organisation managed by Global Philothropy Group.

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta acknowledged Madonna’s social work and called for more collaborations. Madonna in turn described First Lady’s undertaking as an amazing movement that seeks to end gender-based violence through education and awareness building.
