Minnesota Governor has declared Tuesday (6/7) as ‘Prince Day’ in honor of the late pop star Prince. Today would have seen Prince turn 58 but as a practicing Jehovah Witness he would have not celebrated it himself.
Prince died April 21 from an accidental overdose of the narcotic painkiller fentanyl. The governor’s proclamation, issued Monday, is meant to celebrate his contributions to music and the entertainment industry, and his quiet philanthropy. The proclamation urges Minnesotans to wear purple Tuesday in honor of Prince’s legacy.
The declaration comes after scores of Minnesotans complained about the declaration of ‘Beyonce Day’ following her Lemonade success yet she isn’t a Minnesota native like Prince who hadn’t been honored with such yet despite his tragic death.
