Zetech University crowned this year’s Mr and Miss Zetech in a glamorous event held at the Carnivore Simba Saloon in Nairobi. The scintillating 2016 edition saw 22 year old Maureen Nyawira win the Miss Zetech University title while 19 year old James Mwangi secured the Mr Zetech University crown.
The show, graced by Gor Semelang’o, Chairman, Youth Enterprise Development Fund as the Chief Guest and government officials including Dennis Itumbi and Big Ted, saw the 22 contestants battle for the contested crown in five categories evaluated by the event judges,
The event showcased the various designer wears depicting various occasions including African wear, Casual wear, Career and Evening wear. To cap it all, the final 10 contestants underwent a rigorous question and answer session; prove that it’s not just beauty but also brains that served to push the judges to make their final decision.
Awarding the winners, Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof. Edwin Wamukoya lauded the new title holders highlighting the varsity’s commitment to developing and enhancing talent among students, “it is encouraging to see such talented students pursue their dreams and I wish to congratulate all the contestants for the bold decision to participate. Indeed, we look forward to working with the winners and entire team in different projects throughout the year.”
To complement the fashion, Kaka Empire hip hop star King Kaka gave an electrifying performance with his outfit’s artists Avril, Femi One and Phy entertaining the audience with their latest hits. Rapper Kristoff and Frasha also graced the stage while gospel act Kelele Takatifu thrilled fans and got them to sing along to their gospel songs.

The panel of judges included Miss Universe Kenya 2014/2015 Gaylyne Ayugi, entertainment editor with The Standard Stevens Muendo, KTN’s Maisha Mzuqa host Jamal Gadaffi, Shamillah Kiptoo, etiquette coach at Shammy’s etiquette boutique and actor Manasseh Nyagah.
Commenting on her win an excited Maureen Nyawira shared, “It is such an honour to have been awarded the title and I am excited to take up my new role. I am thankful to my greatest supporter, my mother, and everyone else for believing in me.”
On his part, James Mwangi expressed his gratitude to everyone for the support and to the university for the platform provided to enable him to pursue his passion for modeling. The Hospitality and Tourism student added, ‘I am ecstatic and ready to serve as Mr. Zetech University, this is truly a dream come true.” he added.
The winners took home a cash reward of Sh50,000 each, smart phones and gift vouchers courtesy of the institution and the event sponsors including Itel, Coca-cola, AAR Healthcare, GBS, and People Daily. The pageant first runners up pocketed Sh30, 000 each while the second runners up received Sh10,000 each, with all contestants receiving gift hampers from the event partners.
