Internationally acclaimed Kenyan house, funk, disco and electronica collective, Just A Band, have published a book that they will be launching this evening, Friday the 11th of March, at The Goethe Institute.
‘Just A Book”, which will be launched alongside a video art exhibit, “Perspective”, is their first foray into the literary world, which they’ve been working on for about a year. The publication, edited by Mukami Kuria, will take readers through the band’s story from every corner, telling how they came into being, what challenges they’ve encountered and how they tackled them, as well as everything that they’ve been up to over the years.
The book will provide an in-depth look at the band’s history, process, projects and practice. It will come packaged with Lightspeed, a CD of previously unreleased music.
The band consisting of Bill “Blinky Bill” Sellanga, Mbithi “Ricky Suede” Masya and Daniel “Nairobi Dhobi” Wambua, will also play a DJ set. Or three, hopefully. The event is free and begins at 8pm and goes on till late.
Their accompanying video art exhibit, “Perspective”, which will also be launched tonight, is their third, following previous ones, “TRSMSSN” (2009) and “Kudishnyao” (2011) and will run from Monday to Friday, 14th March to 8th April 2016, 1.00 to 6.00 pm.
